The dashboard is the full interface around your community feed. Everything you need is one click away — browsing categories, chatting in real time, accessing courses. Knowing the layout up front saves you hunting around later.

① Left sidebar — navigation

The sidebar runs down the left and holds your primary navigation:

Community — the home feed, with your categories listed beneath it (All, General, Feature Requests, Updates, Office Hours, Bugs, Introduce Yourself, Success, and + Categories)
Notifications — your personal notification feed
Chat — real-time group and direct messaging
Courses — structured courses and lessons
Events — upcoming events
Members — the member directory
Settings — community and account settings

② New Post button

The black + New post button sits in the top-left. Click it any time to start a discussion, share an update, or ask a question.

③ Search bar

The search bar runs across the top of the page. Type any keyword to search across all posts, members, and content.

Steps

From the home page, look at the left sidebar — this is your navigation panel.
Under the group name, click any category (All, General, etc.) to filter the feed to that topic.
Scroll the sidebar down to reveal Notifications, Chat, Courses, Events, Members, and Settings.
To post, click the black + New post button top-left.
To search, click the search bar at the top and start typing.
On the right panel you'll see the Leaderboard (top contributors) and a Community Guidelines link.

Your profile is your identity in the community — it's what members see when they click your name. Setting your photo, name, and bio helps others know who you are and why you're here, which builds trust and makes people more likely to engage with you.

Reaching your profile

From any page, click your profile avatar (circular photo) in the top-right corner.
The dropdown shows your name and email. Click My Profile to view your public profile page.
Your public profile shows your name, @username, bio, social links, and activity stats — this is what other members see.
To edit your details, click your avatar again and go to Account Settings (or click Settings in the left sidebar, then Account Settings).

Editable fields

Profile Picture — click Upload to choose a photo. A square, clear head-and-shoulders shot works best.
First Name — your given name.
Last Name — your family name.
Biography — a short paragraph: who you are, what you do, and what you want from the community.
Profession — your job title or area of expertise.
Cover — a banner image that sits behind your profile photo.

Make your edits, then click Save (top-right) when you're done.

Reaching notification settings

From the dashboard, click Settings in the left sidebar (gear icon, near the bottom).
In Settings, click Notifications in the sub-menu.
Click the Group Notifications card to open the toggles.

What each toggle does

Community notifications — alerts for new posts, replies, comments on threads you follow, new followers, and @mentions. Turning it off silences most community activity.
Like notifications — a notification when someone likes your post or comment.
Course notifications — alerts when new lessons, modules, or courses are published.
Event notifications — new events, reminders, and time/link changes. Recommended to keep on.
Chat notifications — alerts for direct messages and group chat replies.

To adjust a toggle, click the switch to flip it on or off (dark = on, grey = off). Changes save automatically — there's no separate Save button.

Your Communi package determines what's available to you — how many communities you can create, your media storage, and which features are unlocked. It's worth knowing where to check your plan and manage it, so you're never guessing about what you have or paying for something you've forgotten about.

Where to find it

Click your profile avatar in the top-right corner from any page.
Open Account Settings — your plan and billing details live here, alongside your profile and applications.

What you can do here

See your current package — which plan you're on and what it includes, such as the number of communities and your media storage allowance.
Upgrade your plan — move up a tier when you need more communities, more storage, or features your current package doesn't include.
Manage add-on subscriptions — optional extras like Communi AI or additional video hosting are billed as their own subscriptions; view, change, or cancel them here.
Access your invoices — download receipts for your purchases, handy for your accounting (and for support requests about a purchase).

Don't confuse it with group Billing

There are two \"billing\" areas in Communi, and they do different jobs:

Account plans & billing (this lesson) — what you pay Communi for your package and add-ons.
Group Settings → Billing — what your members pay you to join your group, with your transaction history.

Tip: if something about your package looks wrong — a missing upgrade or a feature that hasn't unlocked — contact support via Help & Support (covered later in this module) and include your invoice.

Communi works beautifully in your browser, but the mobile app keeps your community in your pocket — read and respond on the go, get instant push notifications when someone posts or replies, and enjoy a faster, app-native experience. If you want to stay engaged without being tied to a desktop, the app is the way to do it.

On your phone, open your browser and go to communi.com/app.
Follow the on-screen instructions to add Communi to your device.
Once installed, open the app from your home screen.

Note: Communi isn't in the Apple App Store or Google Play yet — install it directly from communi.com/app rather than searching the stores.

Open the app and tap Log in.
Enter the same email and password you use at communi.com.
Your group loads automatically. If you belong to more than one, switch between them from the menu.

Turn on notifications

When prompted, tap Allow so Communi can send push notifications.
You can fine-tune exactly which alerts you receive any time in Settings → Notifications.

That's it — your community now travels with you wherever you go.

Why your input matters

One of our core principles is simple: we want to build the best community software for our users — and to do that we need constant communication from you. The best way to interact with the software is to tell us how you're using it: what's working, what your members love, and what features feel missing that would make your life (and theirs) easier. Every bit of that helps us build something better.

Posting in the group: our guidelines

We have community guidelines for a reason — when you post, keep it constructive and positive:

Don't just say \"I don't like this.\" Tell us what would make it better, and give as much detail as you can about what's frustrating, so we can understand it and improve it.
Be specific. The clearer the picture you give us, the faster and better we can act on it.
Keep it warm and constructive. Always communicate in a positive way that helps us understand what to improve.

We love feedback and very rarely remove anything. The only posts we take down are ones that aren't constructive — swearing, personal attacks, or comments that are purely emotional rather than helpful. That's rare; we have a fantastic community and we want to keep it that way.

Share your wins too

Feedback isn't only about problems. If the software is working the way you hoped, or you've had a success or milestone, share it. It motivates our team, it inspires other members, and it's one of the best parts of the community. And of course, let us know when something isn't working — we genuinely welcome it.

Getting personal or private support

Some things are personal to you — a question about your purchase, or details you'd rather not share publicly. For anything private, message our team directly. There are two ways to do it:

Help & Support (top right) — click your profile image in the top-right corner at any time, click Help & Support, and send us a message through the form.
\"Need help? Get in touch\" — inside the community, click the Get in touch option to submit a request to support as well.

When you reach out:

Give your request a clear title / topic (more topics coming soon).
Add a description of what's going wrong — specific, but as concise as you can so we can identify the issue quickly.
If it's about a purchase, include your invoice. We can usually see your purchase on our side, but attaching it makes it certain.

What happens next: a member of our team — often myself — is in support frequently, and we'll engage with you through chat. You'll get an email whenever a new chat message arrives, and you can reply right inside the software. Communicating this way also helps us keep improving the platform.

This is where everyone really wants to start — creating the community itself. When you log in you land on your home area, which is your account dashboard. Clicking Back to home always brings you here, and it shows every community you're attached to. You'll see our Communi community here (we recommend joining it, and we enrol everyone into it) — but that's our community, not yours. Here's how to create your own.

Start a new community

In the left sidebar, click Create community. On a mobile device, tap the menu icon first, then Create community.
Choose whether your community is paid or free. We recommend charging for your group, but you can start free and add pricing later.
If you charge, just set a price — it's quick. You then connect your payment options under Applications (Stripe, PayPal, crypto, or Razorpay), or use webhooks if you'd rather not use our payment system. Setting a price now doesn't require this to be connected yet — there's more on payments later in the training.

Brand it

Upload a logo / icon from your desktop.
Add a tagline — e.g. \"Learn how to grow your business fast.\"
Click Create new group. You'll be taken straight into your new community.

Your share link

You'll see a share URL — copy it and share it over social media, with your audience, or with friends. It takes people to your landing / registration page, where they can sign up. For a paid community, this page shows the payment option (there's a way to invite people and bypass payment even on paid groups — covered later).

A look around your new group

Everything is laid out and ready to fill:

The leaderboard unlocks once five members have joined.
Your invite link is ready to copy and share.
You've got default community guidelines and a built-in way to reach out for help (and, depending on your package, a way for your members to reach you).
Notifications, chat, courses, events, members, and settings are all here — blank for now, because you've just started fresh.

Your first step

Once your group exists, the usual first move is to create a welcome post — we provide welcome-post templates below to get you started. From here, the rest of this module focuses on populating your group and getting it up and running. For now, that's how you create a community.

Now that your group exists, let's customize it. In the sidebar you'll find Settings — this is where you make the adjustments that affect everything in your community. When you're first starting out, it's well worth getting familiar with these so you can shape the exact experience you want for your members.

The basics

Name — rename your community.
Slug — change the URL handle for your group.
Description — add or update text specific to your group.
Cover image — click Upload to add a banner instead of just your icon. A proper cover looks great on your landing page.

Group type & pricing

Public vs Private — Public lets people see the content without registering; Private requires them to register before they see anything.
Pricing — set a price for your group here.
Paid External — a great option if you collect payment elsewhere. The group shows as paid and you set the price, but we don't collect payment through our system. For example, if you run a high-ticket program and sell through Stripe (or in person), people apply to the group and you approve them after verifying their purchase on your external platform.

Advanced tools

Group language — run your whole group in another language (e.g. German) with our built-in translation system.
Require profile image — make members add a real photo so you know who's joining.
Payment consent settings — critical for EU customers: withdrawal-right waiver, performance consents, and custom consent texts you can add to your group.
Social links — add your group's social links here. These are specific to the group, separate from your personal profile.

Save your changes

With any change, click Save. Your updates then take effect — your cover, for example, will show on your landing page and in the marketplace / community area where people browse different groups. There's more on individual settings later in the training, but this is your home for customizing everything that happens in your group.

The Landing Page is the public page a visitor sees before they join your group. Communi gives you a drag-and-drop builder where you can turn sections on or off and reorder them. A well-structured landing page lifts conversions by putting social proof and a clear call-to-action front and centre.

The builder has two areas

Preview (centre) — a real-time view of your page as visitors see it: cover image, logo, group name, handle, description, member/course/post counts, and a Join button.
Sections panel (right) — every content block you can show or hide (Hero, Courses, Posts, Reviews, and more).

Steps

In the Settings sub-menu, click Landing Page.
Edit the header — click the pencil icon next to \"Edit Page Header\" to customise the title and subtitle over your cover image.
Show or hide sections — each section has a toggle; flip it to show or hide that block.
Reorder sections — drag the six-dot handle on the left of any row up or down.
Edit a section — click the pencil icon on the right of a section to choose which posts or courses it displays.
Check all screen sizes — use the Desktop / Tablet / Mobile icons at the top to preview each.

Categories are the labelled channels that organise posts inside your group. They appear in the left sidebar and let members quickly filter to the conversations that matter to them. You can add, rename, and remove them from the Community settings panel.

Steps

In the left sidebar under your group name, find the list of existing categories (General, Updates, and so on).
Click + Categories at the bottom of that list to open the category management panel.
Add a category — click the \"Enter category name\" field, type a name (an emoji at the start adds visual flair, e.g. 🎉 Wins), then click + Add category.
Delete a category — click the × on any category tag and confirm. This is irreversible, so be sure before removing a category that contains posts.
Below Categories you'll also find Tags (for post-level filtering) and Links (to add external resource links to the sidebar) — scroll down to explore both.

Category changes save automatically as you add or remove them.

Onboarding questions are a short form new members answer when they join. They do two things: help you understand who's joining (so you can segment and personalise), and start the relationship on an intentional note. You can make questions required and preview exactly what new members will see.

Steps

Click Settings in the sidebar, then Onboarding in the sub-menu.
Enable or disable the flow — the Enable questions toggle (top-right) turns the whole questionnaire on or off. When off, new members skip it entirely.
Review existing questions — each is listed and can be marked Required.
Add a question — click + Add question and type your question in the new field.
Edit a question — click the pencil/edit icon to change its text or toggle Required.
Delete a question — click the bin icon (removes it immediately, no undo).
Reorder — drag the six-dot handle to change the order members see them in.
Preview — click the Preview link at the bottom to see exactly what new members experience before you enable it.

As you set up your group, there are two things you'll often want to do by hand: bring specific people in directly (your first members, a colleague, a VIP), and give trusted people the ability to help you run things. This lesson covers both — inviting people manually, and adding team members.

Part 1: Inviting people manually

Sharing your group link works for the public, but sometimes you want to invite a specific person directly — and manual invites are how you do it. They're also handy on paid groups, where you may want to bring someone in without sending them through the payment page.

In the left sidebar, click Members, then click + Invite (top-right) to open the invite modal.
Select the Manual Invite tab.
Type the person's email address — you can enter up to three at a time.
Click Send Invites. Each person receives a personalised email invitation with a link to join your group.
Need to invite more? Send the next batch — or for a large list, use the Bulk invite option covered in the Inviting Members module at the end of this course.

Part 2: Adding a team member

Running a community doesn't have to be a one-person job. Adding team members lets you share the day-to-day work — approving join requests, welcoming newcomers, answering questions, and keeping content fresh — so the group stays active even when you're away.

The roles:

Owner — that's you. Full control over the group, including billing, pricing, and the ability to add or remove team members.
Admin — your team members. They help manage the community: approving and welcoming new members, managing posts and categories, creating events and courses, and handling member questions.
Member — everyone else. They can post, comment, chat, and take part in everything you've built.

Steps:

The person must be a member of your group first — if they're not in yet, invite them manually using Part 1 above.
In the left sidebar, click Members and find their row (scroll or search).
Open the options on their row and change their role to Admin.
Confirm the change — their new role now shows next to their name in the member list.
To step someone down, follow the same path and switch their role back to member. You can adjust your team at any time.

Best practices for building your team

Promote from within. Your most engaged, helpful members are usually your best admins — they already know the culture and care about the community.
Start with one clear job. Give each new admin a specific responsibility — welcoming new members, running events, or keeping an eye on the feed — so nothing falls through the cracks.
Agree on tone. Your team represents the community — a short shared note on how you respond to questions and feedback keeps the experience consistent.
Trust, but stay informed. Admins have real control over your group, so promote people you trust — and check in regularly so you stay across what's happening.

Every conversation in your group starts with a post. The + New post button opens a simple composer where you write a title, add your content, pick a category, and hit Publish — the same flow whether you're sharing an update, asking a question, or starting a discussion. Saving to draft lets you come back and polish before going live.

Steps

From anywhere in your community, click the black + New post button in the top-left.
The Create a Post window opens, with three tabs: Create Post (default), Drafts, and Scheduled.
Title — type a clear headline that tells members what the post is about at a glance.
Content — click the content area and write the body of your post.
Category — open the \"Select a Category\" dropdown and choose the channel that fits (required; you can't publish without one).
Click Publish to go live immediately, or Save to draft to finish later (find it under the Drafts tab). Cancel closes without saving.

Plain text works, but formatting and media make your posts far more readable and engaging. The rich-text toolbar lets you bold key phrases, add lists, insert links, and drop in emoji — and a media row lets you attach images, video, voice notes, documents, or GIFs to any post before publishing.

Scroll down inside the composer to the media row and click any type:

Communi gives you three tools for organising content — Categories, Tags, and Links — and knowing the difference saves a lot of confusion. They all live in Settings → Community.

The three tools at a glance

Categories — broad, permanent channels (e.g. \"Bugs\", \"Office Hours\") shown in the sidebar with a # prefix. Every post belongs to one. Use them to separate major topic areas.
Tags — finer post-level labels (e.g. \"tutorial\", \"urgent\", \"v3\"). Members tag posts and filter the feed by tag. Tags don't appear in the sidebar — they filter within a category.
Links — URLs you pin to the sidebar for all members (a YouTube channel, a support page, a review link). They appear below your categories and are clickable by everyone.

Steps

Click Settings in the sidebar, then Community (or click + Categories at the bottom of the sidebar channel list).
Add a tag — in the Tags section, type a name in \"Enter tag name\" and click + Add tag.
Add a link — in the Links section, click + Add a New Link, enter a title and URL, and save.

Pinning keeps your most important posts — welcome messages, announcements, key resources — locked to the top of the feed so they're the first thing members see. You can pin a post as you create it, pin an existing post, and reorder all your pinned posts.

Steps

Pin at creation — in the New Post composer, scroll to the options and toggle Pin this Post ON before you publish. The post appears pinned at the top of the feed.
Pin an existing post — open the post, click the pencil/edit icon, toggle Pin this Post ON, and save.
Reorder pinned posts — click Reorder pinned (top-right of the feed), then drag posts up or down to set the order they appear in.
Unpin — open the post, click the pencil/edit icon, toggle Pin this Post OFF, and save. It returns to its normal chronological spot.

Tip: the filter (funnel) icon next to Reorder pinned lets members filter the feed by type — posts, questions, polls, and so on.

Chat is Communi's real-time direct messaging, sitting alongside the post feed. It's ideal for quick one-on-one conversations rather than broadcasting to the whole group. Every member can send and receive DMs; as an admin, Chat is also your main support channel.

Steps

Open Chat — click Chat in the left sidebar (below Notifications). The view splits into your conversation list (left) and the active thread (right).
Switch conversations — click any conversation in the left list to open it. A bold name means unread messages.
Send a message — type in the \"Send a message…\" box and click the send arrow (or press Enter). The composer also has emoji, voice recording, schedule-message, and image-attachment buttons.
Open member info & options — click the bracket/sidebar icon at the top-right of the thread to see the contact's profile, pin a key message, or delete the conversation (deleting is irreversible).
Start a new DM — go to Members in the sidebar and click the chat-bubble icon on someone's row to open a thread with them.
Search — use the search bar atop the conversation list to find a thread once you have many.

Chat vs Posts: Chat is private, one-to-one, and real-time — only you and the other person see it. Posts are public to the group. Use Chat for sensitive support; use Posts for announcements and discussions everyone should see.

Your community is only as good as the people in it, so getting your first members through the door is your most important early action. Communi gives you several ways to invite people: a shareable landing-page link, a direct registration link, a bulk-import link for migrating an existing audience, and a downloadable QR code. These live in two places — the Members page and Settings → QR Code.

Steps

In the left sidebar, click Members, then click + Invite (top-right) to open the invite modal.
Landing Page link — with the Landing tab selected, the URL (e.g. communi.com/community) is your public join link. Click Copy and paste it anywhere — email, social, a newsletter, a bio link.
Manual email invites — under the Manual Invite tab, type up to three email addresses and click Send Invites to email personalised invitations.
Register link — click the Register tab for a direct sign-up URL (communi.com/community/register) that skips the landing page. Use it when you want people to join immediately.
Bulk import link — click Bulk invite for a bulk-join URL, designed for migrating a pre-imported list (people verify their email to join in one step).
QR code — go to Settings → QR Code, choose Landing Page or Register, and click Download to save a scannable code for print, slides, or social.

When your group is set to Private, anyone who applies must first complete your onboarding questions, then wait for admin approval before they can access anything. Pending requests appear at the top of the Members page the moment they arrive — showing the applicant's name, request time, their onboarding answers, and Approve / Decline buttons. Reading the answers first keeps your community intentional and high-quality.

Steps

In the sidebar, click Members. A waiting request appears highlighted at the very top of the list, and the Notifications bell shows a badge.
The expanded panel shows each onboarding question with the applicant's answer — read these carefully, as they're your main signal for fit.
Approve — click the white Approve button to grant full access; they move into the main member list and get notified.
Decline — click the red Decline link to turn the applicant away.
Multiple requests stack at the top in order (oldest first) — work through them top to bottom.
To collapse a request without acting, click the ▲ chevron; it stays pending until you decide.
Group type — the Private/Public setting that controls whether approval is required lives in Settings → General → Type. Private requires approval for every member; Public lets anyone join instantly.

The first hours after someone joins decide whether they become an active member or go silent — and you won't always be online when they arrive. That's what Automated Messages are for: messages you write once and schedule, which Communi then sends to every new member automatically as they join your group. Every member gets a proper welcome, whether they join at 2pm or 2am.

How it works

You write the message once — a welcome, a pointer to your best content, an invitation to introduce themselves.
You set when it sends — immediately on joining, or scheduled for a set time after they join.
Communi sends it for you — every new member receives it automatically, like a personal message from you.

Steps

In your group, open Settings and find Automated Messages.
Create a new message and write your welcome — keep it warm, short, and personal in tone.
Set the timing — when it should go out relative to the member joining.
Save and enable it. From now on, every new member gets your message on schedule.

A simple welcome sequence that works

On joining — \"Welcome! Great to have you here. Start by introducing yourself in the feed — we'd love to know what brought you here.\"
A couple of days in — \"How are you settling in? If you haven't yet, check out [your starter course or key resource].\"
A week in — \"Our next live event is coming up — here's where to find the details. Would be great to see you there.\"

Best practices

Write like a human, not a brochure. The message lands in a personal context — read it aloud and cut anything that sounds corporate.
One call-to-action per message. \"Introduce yourself\" or \"check out this course\" — not five links at once.
Automation starts the conversation; you continue it. When a new member replies or posts their introduction, jump in personally — an @mention welcome or a quick comment from you is what turns a good first impression into a relationship.

Courses are where your community goes from conversation to transformation. While the feed is great for discussion, courses give your members structured, step-by-step training they can work through at their own pace — and they're one of the biggest reasons members stay subscribed. Everything lives under Courses in the left sidebar.

How courses are structured

Every course follows the same three-level structure:

Course — the container. It has a title, description, cover image, and its own access settings (free, paid, or drip-fed).
Modules — the sections inside a course. Use them to group related
content, like chapters in a book.
Lessons — the individual pieces of content inside each module. A lesson can contain text, video, audio, and downloadable documents.

What members see

Click Courses in the left sidebar — each course appears as a card with its cover image and title.
Open a course to see its modules and lessons listed in order.
As members complete lessons, their progress is tracked — and completing courses earns them gamification points too.

In the rest of this module you'll create your first course, fill it with content, and choose how members access it.

Creating a course takes a couple of minutes — you set up the container first, then fill it with modules and lessons (covered in the next lesson). Don't overthink the first version: a clear name and an honest description matter far more than perfection. You can edit everything later.

Steps

Click Courses in the left sidebar, then click the create / + New course button.
Title — name your course. Make the outcome obvious, e.g. \"Launch Your First Podcast\" beats \"Podcast Course\".
Description — a short paragraph on what members will learn and who it's for. This appears on the course card and overview page.
Cover image / logo — upload an image so your course stands out in the Courses area. A simple title graphic works well.
Save the course. It now appears in your Courses area, ready for content.

Tips for your first course

Start small. A focused 5-lesson course that members finish beats a 50-lesson epic they abandon.
Lead with a win. Make the first lesson deliver something useful immediately — it sets the tone for everything after.
Keep it unpublished while you build. Finish your content first, then publish when it's ready for members (covered later in this module).

With your course created, it's time to fill it. Modules give your course its shape; lessons carry the actual teaching. Plan your structure before you start — even a rough outline on paper — so each module covers one clear theme and each lesson covers one clear step.

Adding a module

Open your course from the Courses area.
Click Add module, give it a title (e.g. \"Module 1: Foundations\"), and save.
Repeat for each section of your course — you can reorder modules at any time.

Adding lessons

Inside a module, click Add lesson.
Title and description — tell members exactly what this lesson covers.
Add your content blocks:

Text — written teaching, with full formatting (headings, bold, lists, links).
Video — paste a link from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Bunny, or Gumlet and it embeds with a player.
Audio — record or add audio for members who learn on the go.
Documents — attach worksheets, PDFs, templates, or other downloads.

Mix blocks freely — a video with a text summary and a worksheet underneath is a classic, effective lesson format.

Tips

One idea per lesson. Short, focused lessons get completed; long ones get bookmarked and forgotten.
Name lessons as outcomes. \"Set up your recording space\" tells members exactly what they'll achieve.
Reorder freely. Drag modules and lessons into a new order any time — nothing is locked in.

The final step is deciding how members get access. Communi gives you three levers: price (free or paid), drip feeding (release content over time), and publishing (when the course goes live). Together they let you run anything from a free onboarding course to a premium program with content unlocking week by week.

Pricing options

Free — included for every member of your group. Perfect for onboarding content and added-value training.
Paid — members purchase the course separately, on top of (or inside) your free group. To collect payment you'll need a payment processor connected — covered in the Integrations module of this training.

Drip feeding

Instead of releasing everything at once, drip feeding unlocks content on a schedule — for example, a new module every 7 days after a member joins. Use it to:

Keep members engaged over weeks instead of bingeing in one sitting
Pace a cohort through a program together
Protect premium content on subscription offers

Publishing

Review your course — click through every lesson as a member would.
When you're happy, set the course to published. It appears in the Courses area for the members who have access.
Announce it with a post in your feed (and pin the post for visibility) — a course nobody hears about is a course nobody takes.

Tip: course completions award gamification points, so an early, easy free course is also a great way to get new members active and climbing your leaderboard.

Charging for courses

When you're ready to sell your course, here's how charging works in practice:

Connect a payment processor first — Stripe, PayPal, Crypto, or RazorPay, under Account Settings → Applications → Payment Processing (full walkthrough in the Integrations module). Without this, you can't collect payment.
Set the price in your course settings — choose paid access and enter your price. Members then see a buy option on the course instead of open access.
Choose your model:

One-time payment — members pay once for lifetime access. Simplest to sell, ideal for self-contained programs.
Course inside a paid group — keep the course free but charge for group membership, so your subscription covers all your content. Great for memberships where courses are part of the ongoing value.
Free group, paid course — a free community as your front door, with premium training as the upsell. Members get to know you first, then buy.

Offering discounts: you can create coupon codes (fixed amount or percentage off, with usage limits) to run launch promotions or reward loyal members — coupons live in your group's Settings, and we cover them in our advanced training.

Pricing tip: price on the outcome, not the lesson count. A short course that solves an expensive problem is worth more than hours of general content — and it's far easier to raise a price that's working than to recover from launching too high and hearing silence.

Live events are the heartbeat of an engaged community. Posts and courses are valuable, but showing up live — a weekly call, a Q&A, a workshop — is what turns members into a real community. Everything event-related lives under Events in the left sidebar.

What the Events area gives you

A shared calendar — every upcom
ing event is listed with its date, time, and details, so members always know what's coming.
Automatic meeting links — connect Zoom or Google and Communi generates the meeting link for you when you create an event (covered in the next lesson).
Notifications — members with event notifications enabled are alerted about new events, reminders, and time changes.
Add to calendar — members can add your events to their own calendars so they don't miss them.

What members see

Click Events in the left sidebar to open the calendar.
Each event shows its title, date and time (in the member's timezone), and a description.
When the event starts, members join with one click on the meeting link.

Why it matters: a regular, predictable event — the same time every week or month — gives members a reason to come back, and gives new members a fast way to feel part of things. In this module you'll create your first event and get members showing up.

Creating an event takes a minute or two, and if you've connected Zoom or Google, Communi creates the meeting link for you — no copying links between tools. (Connecting those tools happens in Account Settings → Applications; if you haven't done it yet, you can still create events and add your own link.)

Steps

Click Events in the left sidebar, then click Create an Event.
Title — make it specific and inviting, e.g. \"Monthly Member Q&A — June\" rather than just \"Call\".
Date & time — pick when the event runs. Communi handles timezone display for your members.
Description — what the event covers, who it's for, and anything members should prepare.
Meeting type — select Zoom or Google and Communi generates the meeting link automatically when you save.
Save the event. It appears on the Events calendar, and members with event notifications on are alerted.

Tips

Schedule in advance. Give members at least a few days' notice — a week is better.
Be consistent. The same day and time each week or month builds a habit.
Start with one format. A simple monthly Q&A is the easiest event to run and one of the most valued.

You've created the event and promoted it — now it's time to actually go live. This is the moment your community stops being text on a screen and becomes real people in a room together, so a little preparation goes a long way.

Before you go live (10 minutes out)

Test your setup — camera, microphone, and the content you're presenting. Join from the same link your members will use.
Open early. Start the meeting 5–10 minutes before the official time — early arrivals get a relaxed chat, and you start on time instead of fumbling.
Hit record — if you want a replay (you do), start the recording before the content begins.

Starting the session

Open Events in the left sidebar and click your event.
Click the meeting link — the Zoom or Google Meet room Communi generated when you created the event — and start the meeting as host.
Members join the same way: they open the event and click the link. Anyone with event notifications on has been reminded automatically.

Hosting a call people come back for

Start with names. Greet people as they arrive and use names throughout — it's the fastest way to make a call feel like a community.
Deliver what you promised early. Lead with the main content while energy is highest; save announcements for after.
Invite participation. Ask direct questions, use the chat, and leave real space for answers — a monologue is a video, not an event.
End on time, with a next step. Respect the clock and close with one clear action: \"Post your takeaway in the feed\" or \"See you at next month's call.\"

After the call

Post the replay — share the recording in your feed for everyone who couldn't make it.
Post a recap — key takeaways plus a thank-you to attendees (@mention a few by name).
Announce the next event — momentum is easiest to keep while the last call is still fresh.

Tip: nerves are normal — especially for your first few calls. Small and slightly imperfect beats polished and postponed; your members are there for you, not a production.

What is gamification?

Gamification means applying game-like elements — points, progress, and friendly competition — to your community. When members earn recognition for participating, they're motivated to keep contributing. The result is a more lively, self-sustaining community.

Levels

Levels reward members as they participate. Every action — posting, commenting, reacting, completing lessons — earns points, and as those points add up, members climb to higher levels. Levels give members a sense of progress and status, and they signal who your most active contributors are.

Leaderboards

How they work together

Time periods

Communi connects to the tools that run your business — payment processors so members can pay you, and email platforms so new members flow into your lists automatically. All integrations are managed from one place: Account Settings → Applications (click your profile avatar in the top-right, or go to communi.com/account-settings/integrations).

The key concept: two levels

Account level — you connect a tool once on the Applications page (e.g. link your Stripe account or paste your email tool's API key). This covers your whole Communi account.
Group level — where relevant (like email lists), you then tell each group which connected tool to use, via the group's Settings → Connections.

So you enter credentials once, then reuse that connection across every group you run.

What's on the Applications page

Payment Processing — Stripe, PayPal, Crypto, and RazorPay (next lesson).
Marketing Automation — email and CRM tools like Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, GetResponse, MailerLite, Kit, Aweber, and more (final lesson of this module).
You'll also see categories for AI, live meetings/webinars, and automation tools like Zapier and Make — those are covered in our advanced training.

How to read the cards: a green Connected badge means the tool is already linked; a black Connect button means it isn't set up yet.

The Communi AI connector links your community to Claude, so you can run your group by simply talking to AI — draft and schedule posts, build entire courses with modules and lessons, search and summarize your group's conversations, and pull member lists, all from a normal chat. No logging in and out; Claude does the clicking while you stay in flow.

Before you start

Custom connectors are available on Claude's Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans — not the free tier.
On Team or Enterprise accounts, an admin has to enable connectors before members can add them. On personal Pro/Max, you can do it yourself.

The connector URL

You'll need one thing handy — the Communi MCP address:

In Claude, open Settings → Connectors. (On Team/Enterprise it lives under Organization Settings → Connectors.)
Click the + button and choose Add custom connector.

To charge for your group or courses, you need a payment processor connected. Communi supports four, all under Account Settings → Applications → Payment Processing. Because the connection is at the account level, one setup covers every group you own.

Your options

Stripe — the most popular choice; card payments and subscriptions in most countries.
PayPal — lets members pay with their PayPal balance or linked cards; familiar to buyers worldwide.
Crypto — link a crypto wallet via WalletConnect as a payout destination.
RazorPay — the go-to for India and South Asia, supporting local payment methods.

Steps

Click your profile avatar (top-right) and open Account Settings → Applications.
Scroll to Payment Processing and click Connect on your chosen processor.
Follow the connection flow — Stripe and PayPal walk you through authorising your existing account; RazorPay asks for an API Key ID and Secret from your RazorPay dashboard; Crypto uses a WalletConnect authorisation.
When the card shows a green Connected badge, you're done.
Now set your prices: group pricing lives in your group's Settings, and course pricing in each course's settings. Payments from members flow to your connected account.

Safety note: API keys and secrets are like passwords — never share them or post them in screenshots.

Tip: if you collect payment somewhere else entirely (e.g. a high-ticket offer sold by invoice), you don't need a processor — use the Paid External group type covered in the Setting Up Your Group module, and approve buyers manually.

Your community and your email list should grow together. With an email integration connected, every member who joins your group is automatically added as a contact in your email platform — subscribed to the list you choose, with any tags you've set. No exports, no copy-pasting.

Supported tools

The Marketing Automation section of Account Settings → Applications includes Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, GetResponse, Ontraport, Pabbly Email, MailerLite, Quentn, Kit, Aweber, Keap, and KlickTipp. Nearly all connect the same way — with an API key from that tool (a few also ask for an API URL or App ID).

Step 1 — Connect at the account level

Go to Account Settings → Applications and scroll to Marketing Automation.
Click Connect on your tool.
In your email platform, find your API key (usually under Settings → API or Integrations), copy it, and paste it into the Communi form.
Click Save — the card now shows Connected.

Step 2 — Assign it to your group

In your group, go to Settings → Connections and click Create.
Pick your connected tool from the dropdown (only account-connected tools appear).
Choose which list new members should be added to, and Save.

From now on, everyone who joins this group flows straight into that list — ready for your welcome sequence, newsletter, or automations.

If you run live events (and after the Hosting Events module, you should!), the live meeting integrations are what make them effortless. How the connection works

Both Zoom and Google connect via OAuth — you log in through a secure pop-up and click Authorize. There are no API keys to copy, and you can disconnect at any time from the same page.

Connecting Zoom

Click your profile avatar (top-right) and open Account Settings → Applications.
Scroll to Live Meetings & Webinars and click the Zoom card, then Connect.
A Zoom login pop-up opens — log in, review the permissions, and click Authorize. You're returned to Communi with Zoom connected.

Connecting Google

In the same section, click the Google card, then Connect.
Log in with your Google account and click Authorize. This enables Google Meet links for your events — and member-data export to Google Sheets as a bonus.

Using it

In your group, go to Events → Create an Event.
Select Zoom or Google as the meeting type and save.
Communi generates the meeting link automatically and attaches it to the event — members join with one click when you go live.

Bonus: with Zoom connected, you can also schedule one-on-one calls directly from a Chat thread — propose a date and time, and Communi creates the Zoom link for you.

What this unlocks

Why schedule at all?

Your audience isn't online when you happen to be free to post. A custom domain replaces the default communi.com/community URL with your own web address — for example community.yourbrand.com — so your group feels like a fully branded destination. Communi guides you through it in four steps: choose a domain type, enter your domain, update a DNS record at your registrar, and complete the connection.

Steps

Click Settings in the sidebar, then Custom Domain.
The page opens with a four-step wizard: select a domain type, add your domain, add the DNS record, and complete setup.
At your domain registrar (e.g. GoDaddy, Namecheap), create a new A Record pointing your subdomain (e.g. \"community\") to the IP address shown on the page.
Once the DNS change propagates, return to this page and click Verify to confirm the connection.
Use Delete only if you want to remove the domain and start over.

Communi now has course landing pages, a highly requested feature that allows you to sell or give away access to your courses — even to people who are not members of your community.

How it works

When someone visits your course landing page URL, they can register just for that course without gaining access to the rest of your community. They become a course-only member. If they later want to join your community, they can apply or pay to do so separately. This works for both free and paid courses.

Free courses

If your course is free, visitors will see an Enroll Now button and can create a Communi account to get instant access to the course. They will not have access to anything else in your community — just the course.

Paid courses

If your course is set as paid in the course settings, visitors will see a Get Access Now button. Clicking it brings up the payment options, and once the sale is processed, they gain access to the course. This means someone outside of your community can now purchase your course directly.

How to find and share your course landing page URL

Go into your Courses section and click Enter Course on the course you want to share. Copy the URL from your browser's address bar. That URL is your course landing page. Share it via email, social media, your website, or anywhere else online. Both existing community members and non-members can use this link to access or enroll in the course.

Pre-selling your course

You can also use course landing pages to pre-sell or pre-register people before your course is ready. In the course settings, you'll find an option to unlock your course at a specific future date. This lets you share the landing page while you're still building the course, so people can purchase or register in advance.

This is a powerful strategy. Sharing details about a course that launches in two weeks builds anticipation and gets people excited before it's even available. Both your existing members and people outside your community can pre-register or pre-purchase using the same landing page link.

Coupons are discount codes new members can apply when joining your paid community — reducing the price by a fixed dollar amount or a percentage. You set how many times a code can be used (a limit or unlimited) and whether it applies to recurring subscriptions as well as one-time payments. You can have up to 10 active coupons at a time.

Steps

In Settings, click Coupons.
Click + Create Coupon to open the form.
Discount type — choose Amount off (a fixed dollar reduction, e.g. $10) or Percentage off (e.g. 20%).
Enter the coupon code name, set the discount value, and choose a usage limit (Unlimited or a specific number).
Toggle Allow on Subscriptions ON if the coupon should also apply to recurring billing.
Click Add to save the coupon.

Settings → QR Code generates ready-to-use QR codes for your community — for flyers, business cards, event signage, or anywhere offline. There are two types: Landing Page (links to your public landing/marketing page) and Register (links straight to the sign-up form so people join immediately on scanning). Both have a Download button for the image and a Copy Link button for the URL.

Steps

In Settings, click QR Code.
Landing Page — this code links to your public-facing page; ideal when you want people to read about your community before joining.
Click Register in the Active QR Codes panel to switch to a code that links straight to the sign-up form.
Click Download to save the code as an image for print, or Copy Link to copy the URL for digital use.

The Billing page is where you manage what members pay to join and view your transaction history. The Pricing card shows your current plan (Free, or a paid tier) and an Update pricing button to change it. The Recent Transactions section is a live log — each member payment appears with their name, date, status, and amount, and you can export the full history as a CSV.

Steps

In Settings, click Billing.
Change member pricing — click Update pricing and follow the setup flow to set or change what members pay to join.
Review transactions — member payments appear in the Recent Transactions table (member, date, status, amount).

We've deployed a brand new feature that's going to completely change how you run your external affiliate promotions.

Here's a breakdown of what I did.

First what I used to do:

I've sold millions of dollars in affiliate products. In the past I hated putting these promotions together. It just sucked. Partly because I would use a software like clickfunnels and have to go in and edit a page.

My process was: 🚮

1. Locate the page

2. Duplicate the page

3. Edit the funnel page

4. Redesign the page to fit with the promotion

5. Attach my affiliate link

6. Create a video for the promotion

7. Write up emails for that promotion

8. Send out promotion.

9. Work on thankyou page for bonus delivery

This whole process would take a long time. The entire day. About 7 - 8 hours. That's partly why I had a full time team helping me with this. I had a person working just on promotions. Another who was working on getting links and information for that person from affiliates. It was a system that was necessary. Each bonus page would cost on average between $80 - $140 to put together at the end of the day.

My process as of last week: 🧨

I let go of my bonus team awhile back. Since then I have been putting these promotions together myself and it has made me think of different ways of cutting timelines down and getting things done faster.

Now I have done that and here's what my process is:

1. Write up a post about the offer inside of Communi.

2. Mark the page as a publicly viewable page.

3. Insert affiliate link into the post.

4. Add a scarcity countdown to the post to 'self-destruct'

5. Complete video and add into post.

6. Write up my emails and insert the affiliate link & post URL

7. Send out emails

The whole process takes a fraction of the time (max 1 hour) because \"DESIGN\" is removed. There is no need to make the page \"look good\". It just looks GOOD.

It's clear, easy to see and it looks great.

There is absolutely no reason to use sales funnels or funnel pages for bonus promotions anymore. This promotion is proof of that. One of the best parts of this entire process as well is that if people see the promotion and want to join my hub thats attached to the promotion. They can now do that. There's the option within the sidebar to simply \"Join\" or signup if they want to.

Test it out on your next promotion and see how it works for you. This is how I will be doing all of my external promotions in the future.

This one closed out after 3 days, 5 emails at $5000 in sales which is probably better than the result I would expect from a promotion that leveraged a traditional funnels based landing page.
